Through the Year with Jesus {Book Review}

Through the Year with Jesus by Katherine Bogner is a beautifully illustrated hardcover book reflecting on the Gospel Readings throughout the entire year! The book begins with an explanation of the format of the book and how it presents the Life of Jesus in the order of the Liturgical Calendar. Mass Resources ~ Homilies at Home

With the current closures of Churches and cancellation of Masses, we are suddenly all feeling the very real impact of the Coronavirus. I began compiling this Homilies at Home Directory a few short months ago and I will be adding to it as quickly as the recommendations come in (see online form below!) so that we can all listen to homilies at home!

Our Adventure in California {Throwback Thursday}

So happy to finally share pictures from our recent adventure in California!

As part of our 25th Anniversary this year and our good friend Fr. Roger’s 30th Anniversary of Ordination, we went on a pilgrimage through San Franciscso, San Jose and Santa Cruz. We stayed at THE BEST Air Bnb in the middle of the Redwood Forest, only a 15 minute drive to beach!

Book Review: The Sacred That Surrounds Us: How Everything in a Catholic Church Points Us to Heaven

I’m so excited about this book!

This is a beautiful 125 page Catholic reference book as beautiful as any photographic coffee table book. It explains the historical and symbolic significance of each vessel, vestment, linen, devotional, Church furnishing and architectural component found within a Catholic Church. Each sacred article is presented with exquisite photography and meticulously described with infused Catholic teaching to relay the deeper meaning and ethereal qualities and purposes from our rich Tradition and Faith. As we learn more about these vessels, vestments and articles within the sacred spaces of our Church, we can come to a better appreciation of the beauty and significance they lend to the remarkable Sacraments we receive. This book will help to foster reverence and awe within the Faithful, as we are called to approach the Altar of the Lord.

Merry Christmas from the McConkey family

We hope you’re having a Merry Christmas

and we wish you every grace and blessing for the New Year!

Interesting fact…in Canada, we have FEWER Holy Days of Obligation but we hold on pretty tightly to the ones we still have.

Next Monday is the Solemnity of Mary and although the precept to attend Mass is abrogated in the US, it remains a Holy Day of Obligation here in Canada…so we adapted our handy Mass graphic from this past weekend…to reflect next weekend’s Masses for the Feast of the Holy Family and the Solemnity of Mary.

5 Tips to Help Adults Focus at Mass

Advance Reading

It always helps me to focus at Mass if I have read the readings beforehand. It also helps to receive the daily readings in the Blessed Is She Devotion each morning! I usually click on the link in the email and read the readings, psalm and Gospel along with the thoughtful reflection based on them. You can subscribe to Blessed Is She here

  • Missal

    The truth is…my hearing isn’t so great. I have a little trouble hearing the readings if the reader isn’t perfectly clear and if there is someone rustling a cough candy wrapper in the next pew.  I find it much easier to focus if I’m following along with the readings as they are read.
